I’m going to be straight with you — homeowners deserve honest answers before they call anyone.

Common AC repair costs in Weber County:

Why does pricing vary so much?

Refrigerant type matters a lot right now. Older R-22 systems are expensive to service since R-22 is no longer manufactured. Newer systems using R-454B or R-32 use more available refrigerants. Emergency calls cost more. And pricing varies widely by who you call — large companies with high overhead charge more. An independent contractor with lower overhead can often do the same repair for less.

What to watch out for:

Pressure. If a technician immediately talks about full system replacement before doing a thorough diagnosis, that’s a red flag. A failed capacitor does not mean your system is done. I always make sure customers understand exactly what’s wrong, what it costs to fix, and all their options — including doing nothing if that’s reasonable.
